The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) oversight office has confirmed it is reviewing multiple complaints against Andrea Johnson, head of IDAC, amid allegations of improper conduct and recent absence from the Madlanga commission following her hospitalisation on 13 July 2026.

According to statements by retired judge Takalani Raulinga, who was appointed as the oversight judge for IDAC in October 2025, several high-profile complaints have been logged and are actively under investigation. While Raulinga declined to disclose details about the complainants, he stated, “All I can say is that, yes, we have received a number of complaints and we are busy dealing with them, and investigators are out there investigating and without disclosing who the parties are, I can tell you that we have received high-profile complaints and we are dealing with them.”

The complaints include allegations that in 2018 Johnson shared a confidential docket related to an assault case involving Maj-Gen Feroz Khan. She has also admitted to participating in the process which saw her husband hired by the now-defunct Scorpions unit in 2007. In April 2026, Public Interest SA filed a criminal complaint concerning Johnson’s role in her husband’s hiring.

Johnson’s recent hospitalisation has delayed her testimony before the Madlanga commission, which is probing corruption in South Africa’s justice sector.
