Seven people lost their lives in two separate shooting incidents on the Cape Flats on 26 July 2026, with five victims killed in Gugulethu and two more in Manenberg, according to police statements. Authorities have confirmed that detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit are investigating both attacks and searching for the perpetrators.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut confirmed that in Gugulethu, four men and one woman were killed after two armed men forced entry into a house and opened fire, leaving no survivors inside. In a separate incident in Manenberg, two men were shot dead and an elderly woman wounded in another attack that occurred just hours later.

The incidents illustrate the persistence of violent crime in these communities, with both areas frequently experiencing gang-related violence and reprisal shootings in recent years. The motive for the latest attacks has not yet been established by police.

Major General Luyanda Damoyi, Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, strongly condemned the attacks and instructed detectives to pursue all available leads to apprehend the offenders. Speaking in a statement relayed by SABC News, the Commissioner assured the public that the police are prioritising efforts to bring those responsible to justice.

“Detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit are investigating,” Traut stated, emphasising the commitment of law enforcement to resolving the cases promptly and ensuring community safety.
