Police Investigation And Response

Speaking on Friday, Andre Traut stated, “According to preliminary reports, two unidentified armed suspects entered the property, proceeded to a structure at the back of the premises and opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene in a white Hyundai motor vehicle.” Traut emphasised that, “The motive for the attack is yet to be established and forms part of an ongoing investigation.” Police teams are actively searching for the suspects and have appealed to the public for assistance with information that could aid the investigation.

Violent Crime Trends In Khayelitsha

Khayelitsha has experienced several incidents of gun violence in recent months. In May 2026, six men were targeted in a late-night attack, with three fatalities and three survivors transported to hospital; the motive for that shooting was under investigation, with extortion-related activity not being ruled out according to local police. In March 2026, four suspects alleged to be involved in the extortion of businesses were shot and killed in a confrontation with police in Site C. These repeated incidents have prompted authorities to intensify their presence and investigations in the area as communities express growing concern over safety and the ongoing threat of organised criminal activity.

Police continue to investigate the latest shooting and are expected to provide further updates as the manhunt progresses.
