Hani's leadership and activism made him a target for the apartheid government. Tragically, Chris Hani's life was cut short on April 10, 1993, when he was assassinated outside his home in Dawn Park, Boksburg, by Janusz Walu\u015b, a Polish far-right extremist. His death came at a critical moment in South Africa's transition from apartheid to democracy, sparking widespread fear of civil unrest. However, the national mourning and unity in the wake of his assassination contributed to the country's move towards a peaceful election the following year.
