MK Party Denies Spending R336,000 on Private Security Claims

The MK Party has formally rejected as “false, malicious, and irresponsible” the allegations that it spent over R336,000 on private security services for its secretary-general, Sibonelo Nomvalo, after an invoice from Real Squad Security surfaced showing a bill dated April 2026.

Party Dismisses Allegations And Questions Motives

The party’s public statement accused sections of the media and political opponents of spreading misinformation regarding its finances. “The MK Party categorically denies the false, malicious, and irresponsible reports alleging that the party spent over R336,000 on private security for its secretary-general,” the party said in a statement issued in July 2026. The disputed invoice listed services including two protectors, a reliever, two rifles, two handguns, and a vehicle, but party officials stress that no such funds were expended as alleged.

This public denial follows similar patterns by the MK Party in rebuffing claims about its internal management. In October 2025, the party rejected accusations by then police minister Bheki Cele that it was funded by diamond dealer Louis Liebenberg. The MK Party has also dismissed separate claims of provincial leadership removals earlier in 2026, calling such reports unfounded and misleading.

Ongoing Scrutiny Over Party Finances

The dispute over private security expenditures comes as the MK Party adjusts to financial pressures. On 19 June 2026, treasurer-general Brian Molefe announced an immediate suspension of all party-related travel, accommodation, car hire, and venue hire until 26 July, citing the need to curtail costs. While the party says these measures are part of responsible management, the emergence of the Real Squad Security invoice has intensified scrutiny from media outlets and rival politicians.

The MK Party maintains that these ongoing allegations are politically motivated attempts to undermine the movement. No independent audit or official investigation has substantiated the private security expenditure claim as of publication. The party has called for fair reporting and greater diligence in verifying financial information shared with the public.

The MK Party says it will provide further updates if any developments arise from either official investigations or internal reviews regarding these contested claims.
