Fufe Makatong has been a key member of the Northern Cape Provincial Executive Council, first appointed as MEC for Roads and Public Works on 26 June 2020 by Premier Zamani Saul and reappointed in April 2024 according to provincial records. She is recognised for her leading role in infrastructure projects, notably co-launching ‘Operation Vala Zonke’ with Premier Saul in August 2022—a national campaign to address pothole repairs.

Makatong previously also headed the provincial health department from October 2018 to May 2019, and served as ANC Northern Cape provincial treasurer from May 2017. As of April 2025, she remains listed as holding the MEC portfolio, with no official confirmation of resignation or removal.
